Education rally
I am attending a rally today at UCF to oppose education cuts. I plan to share that experience in this space.
Public education works
People say a lot of things about public school education, but it does work.
I know this because my daughter is a graduate of the Orange County (Fla) Public School system.
OCPS has a lot of challenges, but for most children it works.
For years teachers and parents have had to open their wallets (on top of their taxes) to donate money to keep the classrooms going.
Now in the face of a historic budget shortfall the school distict is threatening draconian cuts. This cannot be allowed to happen. The cuthey are talking about will never heal.
As parents, and citizens we can no longer afford to sit on the sidelines. It is urgent that we tell the politicians (school board members are politcians, not educators) hell no.
You're gambling with the future of our children and our neighborhoods.
